Porsche Mission E

Electric vehicles first appeared in the mid-19th century. The high cost, low top speed, and short range of battery in electric vehicles, compared to later internal combustion engine vehicles led to a worldwide decline in their use. However since the green politicians are adamant on discontinuing IC engines by 2030, auto manufacturers have begun immense research and development in Electric Technology. Now we have enough varieties to choose from in all segment and Porsche’s answer to the sports car segment is its Porsche mission E concept.

The Porsche Mission E concept is an electric four-seat sports car that generates more than 600 hp. It can accelerate from 0 to 100kph (62mph) in less than 3.5 seconds. Porsche says the concept has a range of more than 500km (310 miles) on a single charge and the car’s battery can be recharged to 80 percent of capacity in about 15 minutes. Yea one-five!

Tribute to tomorrow as Porsche call it is based on the Panamera and was unveiled at 2015 Frankfurt Motor show as a concept is now expected to go into production in late 2019 at Porsche’s Zuffenhausen plant. Porsche expects to produce around 15,000-20,000 per year.

Porsche chairman Oliver Blume dished some details on the Mission E when he talked with Autocar during the Geneva auto show. Blume said Porsche plans to offer model variants of the EV, believed to slot below the Panamera, with different levels of power and over-the-air update capability.

Also packed into the Mission E will be Level 4 autonomous-driving technology, which allows for self-driving in nearly all situations — but Porsche says it won’t let technology overtake the driving experience. Now that’s what I want to hear.

Bloomberg reported that Porsche will build a production version of the Mission E concept as the brand’s first all-electric vehicle to take on the Tesla Model S. Porsche has approved a 1 billion-euro ($1.09 billion) project to produce the battery-powered sports car, the Volkswagen Group unit said in a statement. It will be manufactured near the company’s headquarters in Stuttgart and will create 1,000 jobs.

CEO Matthias Mueller said Porsche’s electric car will be “better than a Tesla,” in an interview. “We respect all competitors, also Tesla, and that is the reason why we have taken a close look at the Model S, as well as at every BMW, Mercedes or something else,” said Mueller.

For Now from what they have showed us the Mission E looks and sounds promising. The design both interior and exterior looks as if it’s borrowed from an UFO, but it remains to see how much of it will be retained when it comes into production.
